Her Royal Highness's Traditional Christmas Service of Carols Spotlights Community Volunteers

Her Royal Highness has organised her yearly Yuletide celebration at the historic Abbey, with attendees featuring dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have helped their communities.

The large audience will hear a blend of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from actors such as Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.

A Theme of Love and Generosity

The theme of the concert, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on the afternoon, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.

In the audience are Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose daughter died of a brain tumour, and who set up a charity, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to help households where there is a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.

"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often quietly and unspoken, and without any expectation or recognition, make an extraordinary difference to the circumstances of individuals," wrote Catherine in a message before the carol service.

A Gradual Return

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own measured re-emergence to public life after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, recently giving her major oration since 2023, in which she discussed recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".

Musical Talent and Access

Those coming to the Abbey can listen to young musicians supported by the Future Talent charity, set up with the help of the late Duchess of Kent to widen access to music lessons.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who plays the trumpet and is from Wales, has been supported by the charity, with funding assisting with equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "awesome" to be performing at tonight's service.

"Music can be very expensive," she stated. She is now studying at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to hone their artistic talents.

A Family Affair

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who is a euphonium player, will also be at the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many important people," she said.

Attending the service will be people from various age groups.

That will encompass Saphia Turner, aged nine, recipient of a young hero award, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to collect donations for community pantries.

Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts

The Abbey has been festooned with specially made wreaths, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett contributing to their design.

Among the musical performers will be recording artist Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, the Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "a dream come true."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be broadcast on television on December 24th.
