In late 2018, Steve Bannon, formerly a top aide to Donald Trump, was in the UK preparing for a speech at the Oxford Union.
The event was interrupted by numerous protesters, and Bannon, who was due to travel that evening, told Jeffrey Epstein in an message: "Activists slowed down my talk don't think I can catch the flight we r enroute to the airport".
Epstein replied: "There. Is a Gulf Air that leaves at 9:50 with a layover in Bahrain". Bannon answered: "U r an excellent assistant".
These messages were released on this week together with over 20,000 pages from the records of Epstein, the late convicted sex offender.
The disclosure by the Congressional committee includes an text conversation where Bannon's identity is redacted. The BBC managed to establish his identity by matching the dates, occurrences, and places mentioned.
For example, Epstein talks about chartering a jet from the UK for the unnamed individual in the messages, and commends their "address at Oxford". Bannon took part in the Edinburgh conference on November 14, and delivered the speech at the Oxford on November 16.
Bannon, who is not accused of any wrongdoing, did not reply on the request for comment.
Bannon served as Trump's key advisers in the run up to the 2016 election and during the initial phase of his presidency, but resigned from the administration in 2017.
He has admitted he was producing a film about Epstein prior to his passing and allegedly has around 15 hours of recordings. In a recording of his podcast earlier this year, he stated: "We plan to release the film, the five-part series, in the coming year - early next year."
But the recently disclosed materials indicate Bannon's relationship with Epstein extended than being his biographer, with the disgraced financier occasionally seeming to act like a personal assistant.
A short time before the conversation in which Epstein appeared to have booked a charter jet for Bannon, Epstein said: "what's it like to have the most highly paid travel agent in the world ".
Bannon thanked him: "U r pretty good assistant", to which Epstein responded "Massages. Not Included".
Discussing a visit to "Abu Dhabi" in a separate text, Epstein assured Bannon: "I'll make sure you are taken care of."
The released messages also show Bannon and Epstein discussing UK politics in that year.
Earlier on the same day his speech at the Oxford Union, Bannon messaged Epstein: "I've gotten pulled into the EU exit thing this day with Nigel, Johnson and Rees Mogg."
Then, in what appears to be a reference to the UK prime minister, the struggling UK prime minister at the period, he added: "They are attempting to proceed. May today / tomorrow…"
Epstein suggested Bannon: "I think remaining as much as you can uk. Ideal- so others get the dedication of your follow through."
Shortly after, Epstein inquired: "Will Theresa May survive". Bannon replied: "I don't see how however the people over here have no balls" and added "Johnson ; Gove; Rees Mogg; David Davis - someone has to step up".
May was finally toppled in 2019 after withstanding two votes of lack of support in December 2018.
A representative for the political party informed media: "Farage has not been in a meeting with Steve Bannon, Rees-Mogg and Johnson." And there is no evidence that encounter occurred.
The US House of Representatives will vote next week on whether the Department of Justice should release all its files concerning its investigation into Epstein, who passed away in jail in that year.
Attention in Epstein's relationships with powerful figures was renewed this week after the publication of over 20,000 documents from his estate.
Some of those referenced the former president, who has consistently denied any wrongdoing. The leader was a friend of Epstein's for years, but says they parted ways in the early 2000s, a couple of years before Epstein was initially charged.
